About Trichandra Multiple Campus
Tri-Chandra Multiple Campus, often known as Tri-Chandra College, is a Tribhuvan University constituent campus in Ghantaghar, Kathmandu. It is Nepal’s oldest college of higher learning, founded in 1918 by Chandra Shumsher.
Nepal’s first higher education institution, Tri-Chandra College was founded in 1918 by Chandra Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana. A year later, the institution offered science at the Intermediate level, marking the beginning of organized science instruction in the country.
It became a full-fledged four-year college in 1924, with just 30 students enrolled. However, until the establishment of democracy in 1951, the college was solely available to a small group of “noble” Rana regime members. The primary goal of scientific education at the time was to educate students for future study in technical areas such as medicine, engineering, agriculture, forestry, and so on in India.
In 1945, science education at Tri-Chandra was elevated to the Bachelor level (BSc). Tri-Chandra was first connected with the University of Calcutta, then with Patna University, until becoming Tribhuvan University in 1959.
